R.I.P. Yash Chopra Ji

First it was versatile Dev Anand followed by the super star Rajesh Khanna and now the legend Yash Chopra! It seems as if the death has started looming on our bollywood.

With the demise of Yash Chopra, an era of romance has ended. The era that germinated the seed of romance in lives of many young girls like me.

I remember it was DDLJ (and it still is) that first taught me the word 'romance'. It not only gave wings to my rosy, romantic, fantasy world, it also let me believe that sweet, young love was very much possible and it existed. I also remember when I watched Chandani, I asked my mum to re-name me Chandani as the name symbolized a life full of light, happiness and self love.

It was the movie Veer Zara that brought an unending trail of tears down my eyes for the first time in a love story. Yash ji has taught us the real meaning of love. He showed and taught us that love is pure, selfless and giving in nature. All of his movies taught us the lesson that love is beautiful and it is indeed life.

He was a visionary who envisioned the growth of Bollywood and gave it a stature that no one else could even think of. His movies always took a huge leap from their contemporary movies but were still Indian and traditional at heart. And this was the true beauty of his movie making wizardry. His heroines have looked the most beautiful in his movies, his heroes have always wooed the most women and his scripts have in a way scripted many a real lives.

Apart from the creative genius that he brought to life through his movies, he also gave his audience a reason to believe in love, to believe in the beauty of love and to fall in love.

Yash Chopra ji, you would live on forever, for love never dies. And you are the very idea of love for me and many more millions like me.

And here is a poem written by Aditya Chopra that is part of his forthcoming film, Jab Tak Hai Jaan

Teri aankhon ki namkeen mastiyaan
Teri hansi ki beparwah gustaakhiyaan
Teri zulfon ki lehraati angdaaiyaan
Nahin bhoolunga main
Jab tak hai jaan, Jab tak hai jaan

Tera haath se haath chhodna
Tera saayon ka rukh modna
Tera palat ke phir na dekhna
Nahin maaf karunga main
Jab tak hai jaan, Jab tak hai jaan

Baarishon mein bedhadak tere naachne se
Baat Baat pe bewajah tere roothne se
Chhoti chhoti teri bachkaani badmaashiyon se
Mohabbat karunga main
Jab tak hai jaan, Jab tak hai jaan

Tere jhoothe kasme vaadon se
Tere jalte sulagte khaabon se
Teri bereham duaaon se
Nafrat karunga main
Jab tak hai jaan, Jab tak hai jaan
