Who doesn’t want a glowing skin? A skin that radiates and shines. A healthy, soft, glowing skin is every woman’s first desire.
The skin secrets come straight from Dr. Kiran Lohia, who is an experienced doctor and who has also started her own venture of skin care products called Cosmedic. This is what she says is the secret behind a glowing face!
Many women and men in India suffer from dull and sallow looking skin. This common condition often causes undue stress on its sufferers. Dermatologists usually treat and prevent this problem by giving the following advice:
1. Eat Healthy
Many patients tell me that they don’t like to eat fruits and vegetables and prefer eating momos, pizzas and other simple carbohydrate-rich foods. By avoiding these nutrient rich items in your diet, you miss out on the important vitamins and antioxidants your body and your skin need to be healthy. Eat at least 5-6 servings of leafy green vegetables and fruits for a healthy inside and outside.
It is easy to get dehydrated in the weather conditions of India. This lack of moisture in the body results in skin that is less supple and duller. So, remember to drink at least 8-10 glasses of water a day.
3. Sun Avoidance
The sun is a common and well-known cause of dull and darkened skin. Therefore, you must try to avoid the sun, particularly between the hours of 10am-3pm when the sun is at its worst. Also, cover up exposed skin so that the sun does not hit it directly.
4. Sun Protection
Unfortunately, it is impossible to avoid the sun entirely. UVA and UVB light both can cause pigmentation and darkening, and UVA light can even penetrate through windows. So, always remember to apply sunblock every morning and every 3-4 hours for optimal sun protection. Remember to get a sunblock with both UVA and UVB blocking! For the best results, check for a sunscreen with “++” for UVA and SPF30 for UVB protection!
5. Eat Omega Fatty Acids
Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids are healthy fats that are essential for proper skin and cardiovascular health. They are proven to prevent epidermal injury from UV light while also helping to restore the epidermal barrier, resulting in better and improved skin tone. If you consume Omega Fatty Acids for an extended period of time, you will likely find your skin to be healthier and suppler with a natural glow. So, eat these essential fatty acids by either taking a supplement, or eating lots of nuts, avocados, flaxseed or fatty fish.
6. Alpha Hydroxy Acids
Alpha Hydroxy Acids are the new wonder ingredient for delivering a natural glow to the skin. These miracle agents are called glycolic acid and lactic acid, and are derived from sugarcane and buttermilk respectively. They act by naturally causing dead and dull skin to exfoliate, revealing newer and healthier skin! They also work by reducing pigmentation and are highly effective for this purpose as well. Always remember to use sun protection if using Alpha Hydroxy Acid based therapies.
