Cooking for kids can be a daunting task as kids prefer something new and different each time. As a mother of a 6 year old fussy and picky eater, I deal with this challenge on a daily basis where I scout internet for new recipes for her.

Megha of Me In Blogland gives us a perfect recipe for Pizza Buns where she includes the recipe for home made buns as well. Is there any meal idea for kids better than home made bun and home made pizza filling?

2. Vegetable Masala Sandwich

Eggless French Toast (L) and Vegetable Masala Sandwich (R)

Kids love spicy food and Manjula of Desi Fiesta makes the best use of this knowledge in this masala vegetable sandwich. You can use any number or combination of vegetables for making the masala.

3. Eggless Sweet French Toast

The sweet and eggless version of French Toast is what you see on the left side of the picture above. It uses honey as a sweetener. Simple to make and good for kids who have sweet tooth.

4. Chilli Cheese Toast

This tasty and easy snack idea comes from Radhika of Tickling Palates. The recipe is simple, easy and quick. Kids love it. You can use brown bread instead of the white bread. I would also recommend adding a layer of butter or cheese to add the extra flavor and taste.

5. Bread Upma

We all know how to make the typical suji upma. But have you heard of bread upma before? Try it out. I have tried bread upma many times and this is the upma that my daughter prefers. Adding bell pepper makes it crunchier and I also add dry fruits to it so that it does not taste too dry.

6. Disco Fried Egg Omelet


Minaxi’s Menu give us a lovely egg omelet in typical Mumbai style. Bread-Omlet is usually kids’ favorite so you can either make it the way it is usually made or try out this different version. I prefer this one. You can also add a paratha to it if you wish to remove bread.

7. Instant Bread Pizza

Manjula of Desi Fiesta is a champion when it comes to cooking for kids. Her blog is rife with such recipes. Tried and tested, this recipe surely works. Add lots of paneer, bell pepper and tomatoes for a rich taste.

8. Caramalized Onion and Green Apple Grilled Cheese

A recipe that doesn’t sound Indian but can be made using all Indian ingredients and it does taste very well. The green apple adds a tingy taste to it while the caramalized onions make it taste a little sweet. Overall a nice khatta-meetha sandwich for kids is here.

9. Spicy Jingle Bells

An easy and quick snack idea that is made from ingredients easily available in the kitchen. Maayeka’s Anjana teaches us how to make these awesome balls. Not just for kids, these can be used for adults as well. You can also stuff a small cheese cube in the center instead of adding cheese in the mixture or can use both. this is so easy that children can also try it and enjoy.

10. Crunchy Bread Rolls




Another delectable recipe from Maayeka food blog. Commonly known as bread rolls, these are very tasty and are deep fried. These are perfect for times when you have to pack something for the kids and you do not want anything dry. Bread toasts etc tend to become dry. Bread rolls are a perfect packing snack.

11. Bread Sandwich Rollups

Try this bread sandwich roll and give bread a new shape. Another one from Desi Fiesta. Rollups are easy to carry and easy to eat too. Kids very much love these. Add veggies or apply peanut butter.

12. Vegetable Mayonnaise Sandwich

This delightful sandwich comes from Vegetarian Indian Recipes. It combines the goodness of vegetables and the deliciousness of mayonnaise. In India, this kind of sandwich is also known as Mexican or Russian sandwich. Basically, this is what we usually get in the markets. The mayonnaise helps to keep the sandwich moist and eatable even after being packed.

13. Bread Rawa Toast




Another one from Vegetarian Indian Recipes blog. My daughter relishes this one and so does my husband. This is their most favorite version of the bread toast. I add a bit of malai to it to make it tastier and healthier for my kid.

14. Easy Cheese Garlic Bread

Nags of Edible Garden describes her cooking inspired from Andhra and Kerala region but her blog has plenty of all kinds of recipes. This one is what I like the most. Most kids love garlic bread and there is nothing better than giving their favorite food while cooking it at home. This 10-min Cheese Garlic Bread takes not more than, well, 10 mins and while you roll out your pizza base and get the toppings all layered on, the garlic bread is ready to be served.

15. Samosa Stuffed French Toast

Ritu of Scrumptious Indian Recipes shows us a novel way to combine samosa and bread together and gives us samosa stuffed french toast. My kid loves samosa. While making a samosa at home is tedious, I like the recipe because I can use the same samosa masala and make a snack without worrying about its crunchiness and outer layer.

16. Oats Tikki


Another one from Ritu of Scrumptious Indian Recipes blog. These Oats Tikkis are easy and instant and very healthy and a good substitute to normal Aloo tikkis. Oats are healthy but most kids dislike oats. This is a very good way of making them eat oats while they will not even know that it has oats in it. Oats tikki is easy to make, delicious and healthy recipe. For binding potatoes, instead of bread and or any other flour, we have added oats in it. Oats are full of healthy nutrients. These tikkis are delicious and give the nutrition of oats too.

17. Cup Pizza


Kiran gives us a lovely idea to customize bread and pizza and make cup pizza. I wouldn’t call it easy but it is certainly a new recipe. If the pizza cup comes out crunchy, then it tastes even better. When making pizza cups, you can skip cutting in to circles and just keep the bread as such in the cups. Use the trimmed part of the bread for making bread crumbs.

18. Baked Bread Rolls

Another favorite blog of mine is Sharmi’s Passions. This new recipe is my favorite. Try it out. Made without much oil and without deep frying, it tastes a little like vegetable patty. My kid relishes it. You can choose the filling of the bread roll and stuff it with veggies and masala that your kid enjoys eating. The timing differs from oven to oven so check exactly after 15mins then proceed with remaining 5mins. If you feel uneven cooking, you can turn over in between like what I did. If you want you can add more ghee or butter as per liking. The stuffing can be of your choice, you can use mushroom, paneer, corn etc.

19. Bread Dahi Chaat

Sharmilee of Sharmi’s Passions gives us numerous ideas to make food interesting for kids. This bread dahi chaat is one of them. Check out her blog for more such innovative recipes. Bread dahi chat is an out come of trying to reproduce dahi poori cutting down the deep frying and potatos alone. So instead of bread you can use pooris too.

20. Grilled Chocolate Sandwich

This one comes from ace chef Sanjeev Kapoor. This kid friendly sandwich is part of British cuisine. British cuisine has always been a multicultural – a pot pourri of eclectic styles.  However Britain’s culinary expertise is not new! In the past British cooking was amongst the best in the world. Traditional British cuisine is substantial, yet simple and wholesome.

21. Masala Pav

Madhura of Madhura’s Recipes shows us a novel way to combine pav and bhaji into one thing and your masala pav is ready. A masaledar combination of onion, tomato, green pepper and spread of Pav or bread and then lightly roasted on skillet to let all flavors get incorporated in bread. Tastes just awesome, will definitely make a hit weekend menu.

22. Sweet Corn Fried Rice

Bored of the usual, plain fried rice? Add sweet corns and give them a new avatar. Aarthi tells you how. This is so easy to put together, you can add whatever veggies you like or have on hand. You can make this just with sweet corn and spring onions. You don’t need any side-dish for this, but you can have it with any Chinese sauce.

23. Mushroom Fried Rice


Sailu’s Kitchen is a renowned blog that gives you easy to follow recipes. I have been following it for a very long time. Its Mushroom Fried Rice is another easy to make recipe. Mushroom fried rice is a simple, flavorful meal on its own that you can fix in less than 20 minutes if you have some left over cold rice on hand. The ingredients are minimal and you can use vegetables like capsicum, carrot, beans, cabbage, corn and cauliflower to compliment the mushrooms.

24. Fruit Sandwich

This delicious, colorful and healthy sandwich can be prepared in less than 10 minutes. Here is the recipe to make fruit sandwich. You can use any fruit that your kid loves. For example, strawberries, pineapple, banana, cherries, kiwi etc can be used to prepare this recipe. Moreover, you can have fruit sandwich for lunch or have it as an evening snack.

25. Vegetable Cutlet

Want to feed vegetables to the kids without annoying them? Make them vegetable cutlets. Check out Padhu’s blog. Vegetable cutlet is a very popular and simple snack item. It is very easy to make and can be had as an appetizer or light afternoon snack or evening snack with tea. It is great for small parties and get togethers and especially for kids.

26.  Corn Cutlets

Give the twist of corns to potato and vegetable cutlets using Suguna’s recipe. I have tried it. It is delicious. This recipe for corn cutlets makes it perfect for parties. It can be made ahead and kept in the fridge till its fried. It freezes well too. This recipe is especially a hit among the children. An air fryer can be used to make this corn cutlet at home so its healthy, and I prefer to shallow fry during parties for children. Whatever you do, its one great recipe to have in your repertoire.

27. Oat Pancakes

Healthy pancakes anyone? Try oatmeal pancakes. You can add bananas too. Initial steps include – In large bowl, combine flour, oats, baking powder and salt; mix well. In medium bowl, combine milk, egg and oil; blend well.

28. Hara Bhara Kabab

Commonly used as a tea snack and an appetizer, Hara Bhara Kabab is tasty and healthy. Follow Harini’s instructions with pictures. Hara bhara kabab recipe is a popular north indian snack. True to its name hara bhara kabab is in bright green color due to the addition of fresh green peas and blanched spinach.

29. Cornflakes Bhel

Corn flakes + bhel = Cornflakes chaat. Take help from Vani of Marudhu’s Kitchen. This cornflakes crunchy bhel/healthy corn flakes bhel is genuine healthy snack inspired from Sanjeev Kapoor’s healthy diet book. In his recipe list mango pieces were included but even though I was not having one it tasted great and kids will love it for sure.A sharp crunchiness comes from the peanuts added! Other than pomegranate and onion. cornflakes crunchy bhel/healthy corn flakes bhel is a perfect after school snack.

30. Masala Pasta

Give phirangi Pasta an Indian twist using Rajeshwari’s recipe for masala pasta. For this masala pasta, Rajeshwari recommends these kind of shapes rather than the long spaghetti kind of pastas. This fits in perfect for lunch boxes or for dinner.

Unlike the other recipes on the list, this one is not a typical Indian food but nevertheless it can be cooked using ingredients that are easily available in India. A flavorful breakfast or brunch (or even easy dinner) dish sure to impress anyone in attendance, especially for kids as it has eggs and spinach.

32. Scrambled Eggs

Easy, quick and healthy. If your kids love eggs, go for this one. Scrambled eggs are a popular breakfast staple, but one that can often go painfully wrong. Sure, it’s pretty hard to make scrambled eggs inedible, but there’s nothing worse that rubbery scrambled eggs, or ones that are still quite watery. Once you master perfectly fluffy and moist scrambled eggs, there will be no turning back.

Needs no introduction as it is most kids’ favorite. Vegetable hakka noodles are easy peasy. Learn how to make quick, easy and delicious vegetable Hakka noodles. Cooking Time: 15 minutes. Prep Time: 10 hours. Serves: 2

35. Spicy Vegetable Toast

What’s Cooking Mom is my favorite blog when it comes to cooking ideas for kids. I love Nidhi’s presentation and the way she makes the recipes kid friendly. Try it out. These spicy s are perfect appetizers for kids parties as these are bite sized and can be made in any desired fun shapes. These are also very nutritious as these have lots of veggies. Best part about this recipe is you can make them ahead of time and then heat them in a non stick pan just before serving. You can sprinkle cheese and oregano and bake the slices rather than shallow frying to get a healthy bread pizza.

36. Bread Pancakes

Another one from Nidhi. Bread pancakes or bread Uttapam are a very healthy and tasty option for breakfast. It is one of my favorite breakfast recipes. These Bread Pancakes always remind me of Sundays when I was a kid. This was a very popular breakfast in our house.

37. Batata Poha

A snack straight from Maharashtra. Aloo Poha is light on stomach and can be easily customized. Batata Poha is a favourite Maharashtrian dish, and eaten very frequently for breakfast and snacks. It is extremely light and easily digestible.

38. Vegetable Upma

Add lot of chopped veggies to rawa upma and a newer and tastier version is ready. Upma is a very well known and common south Indian recipe. It is light and healthy. It is a great option for packing school lunch and kids’ breakfast.

39. Instant Rawa Dhokla

This sooji dhokla is instant, easy to digest and tastes very well. This is the QUICKEST version of white dhokla. No soaking, grinding or fermentation required. Hence it is very quick and easy to make.

40. Poha Aloo Tikki


A modified and healthy version of typical aloo tikki. Just add soaked Poha to it. A great way to make your fussy eater kids eat poha.

41. Banana Peanut Butter Sandwich

My absolute favorite. It tastes delicious and takes only 2 minutes to make.Keep mid-morning hunger pangs at bay with this nutritionally balanced breakfast toastie.

42. Chocolate Cheese Sandwich

A cheesy twist to chocolate sandwich. It is not only nutritious but also delectable. You are too lazy to get up in the morning and cook! This is why most of the working people skip breakfast and hog in lunch. This unhealthy lifestyle changes can only add to the weight. 44. Vegetable Paratha

A very healthy and different substitute to normal Aloo Paratha is vegetable paratha roll. The Healthy Vegetable Paratha Rolls Recipe is a twist to the popular street food in India that are made from paneer, or aloo or eggs. These rolls are also known as the wrap or a frankie is a delicious wrap that has just roasted vegetables that are wrapped in a healthy whole wheat plain paratha. It is nutritious and makes a perfect kids school lunch box or a weeknight dinner. To add to the punch in these wraps, you can add some Hummus or Mustard Sauce or even a Tabbouleh salad.

45. Besan Chilla

Commonly known as chilla, this is one of India’s staple snacks and tastes great with green chutney. You can add chopped veggies to it. Besan cheela recipe or besan ka cheela recipe – It is a quick and easy to make Indian breakfast. This is also great evening snack with a cup of tea.There are many versions of making cheela. 47. Scrambled Egg Sandwich

A sandwich that combines the goodness of scrambled eggs and tomato and basil. Combining the flavors of Caprese salad with the comfort of grilled cheese, this fresh scrambled egg sandwich is perfect for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Avoid cast iron – Eggs scrambled in a cast iron skillet can turn a greenish shade. This harmless but unappealing color change is the result of a chemical reaction between iron in the pan and sulfur in egg whites. Don’t overcook – The heat retained in the pan will continue to cook and firm up the eggs after pan is removed from heat.

An Indian eatable but I get its recipe to you from Guardian.com. It is spicy and combines pav and mashed potatoes. The Gujarati diet includes a lot of bread, with flatbreads or chapatis piled high on the table at almost every meal, ready for scooping up every last drop of delicious curry sauce. This recipe is another great Indian street food-style dish. Eat it on its own to appreciate all the layers of flavour and different textures.

49. Stuffed Bread Pakora

This mouth watering bread pakora comes from Lets Be Foodie blog. Very easy to make, the pakora is highly filling in nature. Stuffed bread pakoras with paneer and potato are sure to love at first bite. Stuffed with paneer, aloo (potato) flavored with herbs and spices. Bread pakoras are famous Indian vegetarian evening snacks which is very popular on the streets of Delhi. It is quick and easy recipe to make at home. This bread pakora is filled with smooth mashed potato, seasoned paneer (Indian Cottage Cheese) with added flavor of green paste. This is one of the best snack recipes for kids and enjoyed best as tea time/ evening snack.

50. Egg Parantha

Easy to make and rich in protein, this is an ideal breakfast idea if your kid loves egg. You can also cook masala egg paratha by mixing spice blends like garam masala or chaat masala, chopped onions, chopped green chilies or even cheese.
