Note: This is a guest post from Shireen of Superb Recipes
I tried one of her recipes below with few alterations and it was lovely. Simply superb! The pictures of the smoothie is of a recipe that is inspired from her idea of Vanilla smoothie. Here goes to Shireen.
'You are what you eat' is a phrase I'm sure we have all heard or read quite often. But do you know that not just your body but also your mood is heavily influenced by what you eat!? Especially, the romantic kind of mood. Now you know why they say 'the way to a man's heart is through his stomach!'
Food writers, researchers and psychologists around the world have attempted to analyse the chemistry between the pairing of food and romance. Their studies indicate that aphrodisiac foods have the capacity to get the 'love and togetherness' hormones flowing in right measure in men and women! Going by my personal experience, I can vouch for the truth in that finding! ;-) Here is a small collection of easy recipes that one could cook to give a special treat to a special someone:

#1 Vanilla Smoothie Recipe
Vanilla is known to be a natural aphrodisiac and hence this easy to make vanilla smoothie ranks top in my list of special treats! Here goes the recipe:
1 cup Milk
15 Whole Cloves
15 Cardamom pods
2 Cinnamon sticks (medium sized)
1 Vanilla pod, split
1 cup Vanilla frozen Yogurt
Honey (Quantity as per taste)
In a pan, add milk, cloves, cardamom, and cinnamon sticks.
From the vanilla pod, scrape out the seeds and add to the pan.
Heat milk but do not boil. Remove from heat and allow it to cool a little. Refrigerate until chilled.
Once chilled, remove from refrigerator and strain milk into a pan and discard spices.
To this pan, add frozen yogurt and honey.
Transfer the contents from the pan into a blender and blend until smooth and frothy. Serve in tall glasses garnished with a slit cherry.
#2 Strawberry Salsa Recipe
Since the times of ancient Rome, the amorous qualities of strawberry are well known. Come to think of it, how can a fruit with a perfect heart shape and nice red color not be an aphrodisiac! So here goes my recipe Strawberry Salsa with easily available ingredients:
2 tbsp olive oil (you may use vegetable oil as a substitute)
2 tbsp lime juice
2 tbsp rice wine vinegar
Some fresh mint leaves (washed and chopped)
Cilantro (Washed and chopped)
1 jalapeño pepper, seeded and minced(if you don't have it, there's nothing to fret)
1/4 tsp salt
1 pint strawberries (hulled and chopped)
3/4 cup fresh pineapple (diced and peeled)
1/2 cup sweet onion (chopped)
First combine oil, salt, lime juice, mint leaves, cilantro and jalapeno pepper in a bowl and mix.
Then add the strawberries, pineapple and onion pieces.
Serve this mixture over grilled paneer/cottage cheese, chicken or pork. You may even serve it by it's own! I love it for it's versatility and the many ways it can add a spark to any preparation.
#3 Heart Shaped Cheese Sandwiches Recipe
Short on time but still looking to surprise your special someone? This recipe is just perfect!
Bread slices (use sandwich bread)
Cheese slices (use exotic flavored cheese or just the Brittania cheese slices that are easily available in supermarkets)
Heart Shaped Cookie Cutter
Use the cookie cutter to cut bread slices into heart shape
Cut cheese with the cookie cutter too (albeit more carefully than the bread)
On a baking sheet, place the heart shaped bread slices, the cheese in between and sprinkle some paprika. If you do not like Paprika, you may leave it out. Feel free to add your own variations to this sandwich. I have tried baked kidney beans and tomatoes as separate variations and the results were good.
Bake in the oven for 3 minutes. The cheese will be done and your heart shaped treat will be ready to be served.
If using a microwave, take a microwave safe tawa (these are easily available in the market) and place the bread slices on it. It will take about 2 minutes in the microwave for the cheese to melt.
#4 Flavored Milk Recipe
Want to turn on the mood the traditional Indian way? Try this flavoured milk recipe that uses herbs touted as powerful ingredients in Ayurveda. Did you know that Saffron, a spice which we often use in our Indian cuisine to flavour biryanis and desserts is also known as Nature's Viagra? It is even believed that the famous queen Cleoptara added saffron to her bath to get the love hormones flowing! The other major ingredient of this recipe, Almonds too are regarded as a symbol of fertility and have been known to arouse women. So here goes the recipe for this powerful, yet very easy to make love potion!
4 cups of milk
1/4 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
5-6 crushed green cardamoms
10-15 strands saffron soaked in warm milk
Soak almonds overnight. The next morning, peel and grind them to a paste by adding some water (about half a cup).
Soak saffron strands in half a cup of warm milk, stir and keep aside.
In a heavy bottom pan, boil the milk. Once boiled, lower the heat and add the sugar and almond paste. Keep stirring till the quantity of the milk is reduced to 3/4 th of its initial. Do not forget to stir, else it will burn and you sure don't want especially when you have romance on your mind!
Add the cardamom powder and stir well. Turn off the heat.
Add the soaked saffron strands along with the warm milk.
Refrigerate the milk drink and serve chilled.
