Letting go has never been easy, but holding on can be as difficult. Yet strength is measured not by holding on, but by letting go.
Parting ways with a person you have spent many years with and have had some of the best moments of your life with is definitely not easy. It is indeed a big jolt emotionally.
But life doesn’t stop and nor it lets you stop. Everyone enjoys the ride of the fall. But the more down you go, the harder and longer the climb up there would be.
After a break-up, most of us get the streak to just sit inside the room or hide ourselves up in the blankets but I wish it was helpful. The more you hide, the more difficult it gets to come out later.
First thing to do to move on is to move.
If you have had a bad day, a severe month, a heart ache, demotion or a divorce, move yourself up. Get up and get out. It is easier said than done but that is what is first needed.
The moment you get up out of the bed and later step out of the room, you realize that yours is not the only story in the world. There are billions of people out there, each having their own life.
You are not alone.
Take a walk. Do some errand. Move.
Open your emotions
Open your emotions means expressing them out the way they are. Speak exactly what you mean to say. Talk to a friend, talk to yourself, write a letter (don’t forget to tear it up later) or simply shout in a closed room. Do whatever makes you feel good. But no sweet talking here. Get in your wildest skin and speak. Let your thoughts come out like a downpour. You will feel a lot lighter.
Move to a different place for sometime
This helps a lot of people. New place brings many new things along with it. Try to be in a different environment to be able to get out of the past.
Engage in some great activities
Working with a NGO, teaching in a school, blogging and spending time with family are some of
the therapeutic activities. Spend some time doing these and watch yourself grow.
Forgive yourself and forgive the culprit
You can not move on without forgiving yourself and the other person. Forgiveness lets us erase the grudges. Everyone makes mistakes. Thank yourself for getting out of it. Smile and forgive.
All human beings are resilient
And you are no different. Infact, that’s what made you dump it. You knew you would get out of it and that is why you left it. Get up, groom yourself up a bit and get back out there.
If something has gone wrong with you, it does not mean it will always go wrong. Infact your true strength lies in your ability to set things right even in not-so-right conditions.
Don’t bar yourself from love. Let it come in. Just pick the right person this time.
